trying not to be a prick

sorry i jumped through your window on acid

my brother put me on to a podcast called 'boys watching buffy' - two guys watching 'buffy the vampire slayer' for the first time, more than 20 years after it aired.

it's a cool concept, so i decided to watch along. i haven’t seen the show since it first aired (yes, revealing my age).

while watching, i noticed the theme song was by a band called 'nerf herder'. i always liked that tune, so i looked them up and downloaded their first album. i’ve been thrashing it since.

punk rock has always appealed to me, but with this band, i've been really paying attention to the lyrics. it's that millennial punk rock, juvenile nihilism, with lines like 'i didn’t mean to call you a stupid ho / but I really thought you should know.'

this morning, instead of reading my book, i decided to blast blink-182 with my outside coffee. i forgot how good they were.

it's comforting how one thing leads to another - and my mind wandered back to rainy afternoons in the early 2000s, playing yahtzee with my then girlfriend.

we didn't have anything to do or worry about in those days - no plans, no distractions, just each other's company - we didn't even play music in the background.

there's a sentimental ache knowing a moment is gone forever. but maybe by reclaiming some of the innocence of my youth, i can hold on to that ache like a bittersweet melody.
