trying not to be a prick

modern wage cowboy

i don’t know what the cadence should be in this declaration. clearly ‘wage’ is the adjective, so either i’m a modern cowboy earning a wage or a cowboy earning a modern wage.

and i do earn a modern wage. despite my current career choice, i am at the end of the day, a company drone. i have some responsibility and perks, though i clock in 9 to 5. and even though i live in a small town, my office is sleek and i use more screens than that traitor in the matrix.

my home set up is a little different - more streamlined. i have a decent laptop, wide-curved monitor and obligatory gaming keyboard with a controller on standby. i have a gaming chair. however, i do run linux, use libre office, have my own domain email and torrent regularly.

and saturdays, i do feel like a cowboy. driving to the big town to do my shopping for the week, blaring music down the highway. the light gray highway where miles ahead it’s an inch wide - i drive fast enough that that inch is soon under my hot tires. eucalypt oil glints off gum leaves and four-trailer road trains rattle past.

you know, traditional cowboys either got paid or were made partners in a venture - i guess most of them were waged, with the intention to get their own share of a freedom from finance.

i’m no different. i am a modern cowboy.
