trying not to be a prick

a heart problem

you went for a run today in the big city - on one of the first routes you made when you first returned to australia ten years ago. you struggled, and what's more it was the first time your heart skipped while running.

while you came to perth suddenly for a different reason, your run today reminded you of something else you've neglected for a while - your heart.

the men in your family, yourself included, have amazingly strong hearts. you all run, you all enjoy it. not so long ago, you were running 60 kilometers a week.

and then it happened six years ago, living by yourself for an extended period, in the big town where you hardly knew anyone. a hot saturday afternoon, a 30 kilometer run, followed by a half a bottle of cognac.

the next day you were hospitalized with atrial fibrillation. out in two days.

it happened again three years ago under similar conditions. hospitalized for a week. though this time you were told it was related to stomach issues too.

you'd already decided that your only goal is to share the rest of your life with someone. everything else will be a natural product of that goal - getting fit, moving somewhere cooler, enjoying your job.

last night you watched a video of a cardiologist ranking what is worst for the heart. he ranked loneliness an 8 out of 10.

you don't have a physical problem with your heart - yet - you have a problem that you can't share the love it is bursting with.
